Basement, under the whole footprint

The Thoughtaccess Room

This is a room of this chalet. No other company holds it, it has no address of its own, and you never cross the street to use it. The casino is the basement, directly under reception and the stube, inside the same stone base.

From reception you cross to the stair beside the drying room and go down one flight. Twenty paces and the flight, and not a step of it outdoors, which on a February night at 1,608 metres is the whole of the argument. A member of staff keeps that door through every hour of opening, and there is no second way in: the old ski hatch to the street was filled in 2023 and the stonework around it is new and obvious.

In the basement the gaming room takes the street half and the plant and store take the back. The route never leaves the building. The room

Four tables is what the cellar holds. On a Wednesday in late November one is open. Through February all four are, and on those nights the casino door runs a count, the room being rated for thirty and the stair being the only way out of it.

It was a ski cellar, so it is plain: gneiss on three walls, a concrete floor with the drainage channel still cut along the north side, and the boot rack brackets left bolted where they were. The ceiling is the underside of the ground floor, which is a timber deck on steel, and it carries the stube directly above. There is no music. The loudest thing in the room is the ventilation, and after ten minutes nobody hears it. The casino has a clock on the stone wall by the stair and the staff are told to say the time the first time they are asked.

About boots. They come off at the top of the stair, as they do everywhere in this house between November and April, and there are slippers in a rack. The floor down there is concrete and it marks.

Age and identification

Swiss law puts the casino age at 18, and this door applies it with nothing waived for anybody, including a guest three floors above.

Identification is looked at on each visit rather than once at check-in. That includes the guest who ate in the stube directly overhead an hour before and spoke to the person now on the door. A passport, a Swiss identity card, or an EU identity card or driving licence is accepted. A telephone with a picture of a passport on it is not a passport, and the refusal is not a conversation.

Nobody under 18 goes down into the casino at any hour, including every hour when nothing is open, and including to look at the old boot brackets. People ask about the brackets, usually people who skied here in the eighties. There is a photograph of the cellar as it was behind reception.

Limits and the way to stop

Limits are agreed at the casino table with whoever is on duty there. Say your figure before you sit down and it goes on the sheet and is held to. Ask them to choose the figure and they will, and it will come in under yours.

Stopping is arranged in person at reception, one floor up. Never at the tables, never by telephone, never by email. The self-exclusion is signed at reception, takes hold that evening, and is reversed only in person at that counter. Nobody at the bar downstairs can lift it and nobody will attempt to.

There is no credit of any kind on the casino floor, and there is no cash machine anywhere in this building. The nearest is by the station, eight minutes away on foot in the cold, and that walk has ended more evenings than any rule we could write down.

No game is offered through this site

What exists is a basement room in a chalet on Steinmattstrasse. That is the entire description of it. The site describes a building and one room in it. The site plays nothing, accepts nothing, holds nothing and settles nothing.

To play, come to Steinmattstrasse 24, show identification at the door at the foot of the stair, and sit down. There is one entrance and this page is not any part of it.
